Massage Therapy

Many people think massage is a luxury that goes hand-in-hand with getting their hair and nails done. However, more and more people are discovering that massage, on a regular basis, is a necessary ingredient to good self-care and health-care. Regular massage can slow the production of cortisol, the stress hormone, thereby preventing and helping to heal stress-induced conditions such as insomnia, auto-immune diseases, arthritis, poor digestion, headaches and migraines, to name a few.

Deep Swedish Massage

Deep Swedish massage is a massage that integrates focused deep work on targeted areas combined with long, integrative, smooth strokes, creating deep relaxation, a sense of balance and groundedness.

Prenatal Massage

For the new mom, Barbara offers prenatal massage to help the mom relax after bringing a new being into the world. She offers the added bonus of a free post-baby massage, her gift to the new mom.

The history of the use of aromatherapy as medicine goes back at least 5,000 years. The Egyptians documented various recipes designed to keep themselves healthy , for spiritual use in rituals, as well as for preserving beauty. The Hebrews, who were the slaves of the Egyptians for many years, left Egypt with the knowledge of the use of oils, and there are hundreds of references on the use of these oils in both the Old and New testaments of the Bible.

Europe has long preserved that knowledge. However, here in the U.S. our knowledge has, until recently, been limited to the perfume uses of oils. That is changing as we are learning that, with proper growing techniques and distillation, essential oils can be used therapeutically in the prevention of and reversing of all kinds of illness, especially infectious diseases.

Some of the many benefits of using essential oils include: pain relief, reducing inflammation, aiding digestion as well as increasing enzyme function in the gut, neutralizing pathogens, balancing hormones in PMS and menopause, diminishing headaches, easing muscle spasms, treating insomnia, and much more. It is important to consult with a certified aromatherapist before purchasing and using oils because it is difficult to find medicinal-grade oils in health food stores in this country. I can be that resource, as I am a certified clinical aromatherapist.

Healing Touch

"To know someone has breathed easier because you have lived, that is to have succeeded".....Emerson

Since the beginning of time, there have been healers. In every culture, when someone was ill, they would turn to the medicine man or woman for healing, and that healer would not only create a poultice or tea or herbal concoction, but would also pray to the God or Divine to intervene in the complete restoration of the person’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. All cultures originally used the holistic model of healing including some form of laying-on of hands, because ancient people understood that healing had to occur on all levels to be complete.

In Healing Touch, we acknowledge the same whole view of the individual. Our intention is to restore balance in the individual’s biofield, the electrical/magnetic field surrounding and permeating the physical body. Using light touch on or off the body with intention, we assess where there are imbalances in the energy body and work to restore harmony and coherence, thus allowing the individual’s own healing process to take over.

I had the privilege of studying with the founder of Healing Touch Program, Janet Mentgen, and not only practice healing Touch, but teach it as well. Benefits include better sleep, pain relief, speedy recovery from illness and surgery, faster wound healing, spiritual awakening, peace, relaxation response including lowering cortisol levels, to name a few. It is a beautiful and gentle experience that compliments all other modalities.

Raindrop Technique

Raindrop Technique was developed by D. Gary Young as a way to reduce spinal inflammation and help detox the body of viruses and bacteria that lodge along the spine. If you have chronic back pain, recurring or lingering colds and flu, bronchitis, or a compromised immune system, Raindrop can ease pain, relax the muscles of the back, and shorten the life span of opportunistic microbes, including shingles. It is also a great preventative means of boosting your immune system.

Essential oils high in phenols are dropped gently along the spine and massaged into the back and feet with feather-like strokes. It is a non-invasive and effective modality that takes about 45 minutes, although the oils continue to work for up to a week.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the life-blood of the plant, without which the plant would die. Much like our own blood, the oil of the plant carries nutrients and oxygen, and removes waste and toxins thereby maintaining health for the plant. The oils also defend against opportunistic viruses and bacteria, repelling harmful microbes, as well as act to attract those things that benefit the growth and healing of the plant.

Essential oils have been used as medicine for thousands of years and have recently been introduced into our country in the last few decades. However, 90% of oils sold over-the-counter in this country are not healing oils, but have been distilled improperly or have adulterants in them, which would classify them more as “perfume” as opposed to “medicinal.”

How can you learn which oils are valuable healing oils and which are poor grade? I offer a series of mini-workshops that can teach you how to purchase and safely use oils for your own healing. Check my calendar for up-coming classes on essential oils.
